Francesca was born in Venice, Italy. She married Albert Tolot, a fashion and fine art photographer before moving to Milan. Francesca said she used to wear a lot of makeup and she thought it would be fun to learn new techniques, so she enrolled in classes with a well known Italian Makeup artist Diego Dalla Palma. Diego saw her potential and suggested she take over a booking he was unable to attend for a makeup advertising campaign. Francesca didn’t enjoy the experience at all. However, Diego suggested another attempt. She found herself on the set of Vogue alongside renowned models and photographers. She discovered the exciting world of editorial and creative makeup.

By 1983 Francesca and her family moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a makeup artist. She worked on multiple videos for Madonna such as “Material Girl” and “Live to Tell” which truly began her career and allowed her access to the Hollywood A-listers.

Francesca was handpicked for the famous photoshoot of Elizabeth Taylor in the swimming pool which was photographed by renowned photographer Helmut Newton. Francesca had an immediate connection with Elizabeth even though she hardly spoke any English. The two of them became close friends for over two decades until Elizabeth’s death in 2011. She describes Liz as a beautiful, loyal and generous friend.

Another instant connection that Francesca describes is when she worked with Beyonce in 2003. Beyonce’s first music video “Crazy in Love”. “The day I met Beyonce was another connection, her unbelievable talent, and her being open-minded to all possibilities sparks in me the joy of creativity and the desire to share my knowledge and experience.”(Reference:
Francesca has since been responsible for the makeup looks in thirty-six of Beyonce’s videos and over the last ten years worked with Beyonce from Vogue covers to Super Bowl performances, numerous tours, not forgetting her wedding and marriage to Jay Z.

Cindy Crawford wrote that Francesca Tolot transformed her within fifteen minutes for the Rolling Stone photography shoot. Francesca knew what was important and also what really didn’t matter. It gave her enough to get into character.

Francesca has since worked with Rhiana, Cher, Charlize Theron, Pink, Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jenifer Lopez, Marion Cotillard, Kim Kardashian and many more. Her work features on the magazine covers of Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Vogue. She has worked on Movies such as Mama Mia and Dream Girls and advertising campaigns such as Dior, Covergirl, YSL, Giorgio Armani and L’Oreal.
